This project will provide 200 wheelchairs to physically challenged individuals in Eastern Uganda, improving mobility, independence, and access to education, healthcare, and community life. Many disabled Ugandans cannot afford assistive devices and remain isolated or dependent on caregivers. By distributing free wheelchairs, TICO will restore dignity, enhance inclusion, and improve overall well-being.
Uganda has 4.5 million people with disabilities, representing 12.4% of the population (UBOS 2016). Many cannot access wheelchairs due to poverty, high costs, and limited availability. Without mobility, they face social isolation, dependence on caregivers, food insecurity, and exclusion from education, healthcare, and economic activities, keeping them trapped in vulnerability.
This project will distribute 200 free wheelchairs to physically challenged individuals who cannot afford assistive devices. Providing wheelchairs will improve mobility, independence, and access to education, healthcare, and engagement in economic activities. With restored movement, beneficiaries can participate in community life, children can play with others, reduce reliance on caregivers, and improve their overall well-being.
In the long term, providing 200 wheelchairs will enable people with disabilities to live more independent and productive lives. Improved mobility will open access to education, employment, and community participation. This support will reduce long-term dependency, strengthen dignity, and help beneficiaries contribute to their families and communities, creating lasting social and economic inclusion.
