LiveWell Launch April 9th, 2011

For Release:

On April 9, 2011, LiveWell Health Clinics officially launched its network in the Kayole neighborhood in Embakasi District of Nairobi. LiveWell is dedicated to providing high quality health services to poor people through a commercially viable model. The network includes a full service hub clinic with consultations, pharmacy, and lab services and community outreach and information; and a new satellite clinic, pharmacy and lab serving Matopeni, a fast growing slum. The network will provide quality primary health care to this underserved market with a focus on bundled services for safe motherhood, well baby and chronic disease and family planning services.

Several hundred people attended the launch. The atmosphere was festive with local music, youth theater and comments of support and partnership from the District Medical Officer, the District Officer, the Kayole Location Chief, and private sector sponsors from Faulu Microfinance Ltd, Family Bank, Resolution Health Insurance, Airtel and others. A free health camp, supported by the district health management team, provided child health and nutrition services, blood pressure screenings, reproductive health and family planning consultations and free family pharmacy and products. Over 350 people were served.

The USAID SHOPS project provides technical assistance to LiveWell Health Clinics as an innovative business model reaching the base of the pyramid. SHOPS assisted development of a business and marketing plan and an outreach strategy to specifically target low income people. With this strategy, LiveWell is establishing a broad referral network through extensive community partnership with private sector employers, community groups, and schools. LiveWell partnerships will provide discounted outpatient health coverage of to members or employees and their families. Partners are also linked to LiveWell’s micro finance and insurance partners to help manage the cost of their healthcare. This strategy will establish LiveWell as an active member of the community, invested in positive health outcomes for community members and businesses.

We are very pleased to have LiveWell launching its services.

The Embakasi District is one of the most densely populated areas in great East Africa. The government facilities are not fully adequate to reach the people and private sector partners like LiveWell health clinics is essential. The government is very keen to partner with the private sector and the LiveWell network.

Tius Ondachi, District Officer Embakasi District, Nairobi

The launch means you are officially open and we are happy to partner to establish package for Matatu Association members. Right now we don’t have a facility that can provide services with specifically our members’ needs in mind.

Chairman, Matatu Association – East Nairobi

I am please with LiveWell Clinics. Dr. Allen knows all of my children’s health situations. It is important for me to have a doctor who knows my family.

                                                            Mother in Kayole

We are happy to be working with LiveWell, they are providing good health services to our members. Combined with our micro finance and Faulu Afya health insurance we can provide great access for health services to people in Kayole.

Account Manager, Faulu Microfinance Ltd, Kayole Office

Private sector employers need to take note of the LiveWell clinic model, and sign up their employees to receive service here, as their services are very affordable.

Mr. James Murigu, Private Sector Employer
