Summary

Pakistan has signed UN Charter on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) in 2009 & ratified in 2011. The Province Sindh, has brought local law on disability to protect rights of persons with disabilities to ensure their equality & dignified access to rights in the province. The law on Disability in Sindh "Sindh Empowerment of 'Persons with Disabilities' Act 2018" covers civil and political rights. There is dire need of strong advocacy campaign for disability image building.

Challenge

NDF want to develop capacity of office bearers of Disabled People Organizations (DPOs) for the protection of disability rights. It is unfortunate that the organizations working for the rights of people with disabilities lack adequate capacity and resources to help their target groups. Scores of organization across the country especially in Sindh are registered but due to their incapacity to face the routine challenges, they even do not know the What law in disability exists in their province.

Solution

The targeted organizations have no know-how about disability charters, laws local & International laws. Through this proposed project training workshops will be conducted only for main office bearers (President, General Secretary & Treasurer) of DPOs (15) to improve their learning on implementation & monitoring process of Sindh Disability Act, Sensitization workshops for media to project the law in society, & training workshops for staff will promote disability cause with its spirit.

Long-Term Impact

Disability Rights will be socially excepted to bring Make the Right Real essence through implementation of Sindh Disability Act in Sindh province. The stakeholders elected representatives, Bureaucrats, Teachers, Instructors, leaders in disability & expert in disability, Media & General public will be well sensitized to share their input to bring the impact in real to promote disability cause in Sindh, Pakistan. Disabled People Organizations will be strengthen to claim their rights as per law.
