More than 164 vulnerable children in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo-including 64 orphaned children living at LEVE-MOI Orphanage and 100 students studying animal husbandry need reliable access to nutritious food and practical skills. This project will build a poultry farm for 250 chickens, provide quality chicks, feed, and equipment, and train children in poultry farming. Ten percent of all eggs and chickens produced will directly improve nutrition for orphaned children.
In Goma, many orphaned and vulnerable children face hunger, malnutrition, and limited opportunities for vocational training. At LEVE-MOI Orphanage, 64 children depend on daily support for food and care, while over 100 students studying veterinary science lack hands-on poultry farming experience. Rising food costs make protein-rich meals difficult to afford, leaving children at greater risk of poor health, school dropout, and long-term poverty.
This poultry farming project will build a secure chicken house with capacity for 250 chickens, purchase healthy broiler and layer chicks, provide feed and equipment, and train students in modern poultry farming. Children will learn chicken care, feeding, egg collection, and business management. Ten percent of eggs and poultry produced will be donated to orphaned children, improving nutrition while creating a sustainable source of income for the orphanage.
The poultry farm will provide lasting food security, practical agricultural skills, and sustainable income for vulnerable children in Goma. Orphaned children will benefit from better nutrition, while veterinary students gain real-world poultry farming experience. Over time, poultry sales will help support the orphanage's operating costs, reduce dependence on external aid, create future employment opportunities, and strengthen community resilience against poverty and food insecurity.
