Providing smartphones and internet access to the students.
In the time of the pandemic, challenges come one by one, it depends on us how we handle them. Our flagship initiative is Jagriti Vidya Mandir (JVM), where about 240 students from underprivileged families receive quality education free of cost. In today's scenario, Teaching methods have completely shifted towards online mode, and getting acquainted with the online mode of teaching has become a necessity for most of the students. At present we are conducting online classes for the students of Jagriti Vidya Mandir. WhatsApp is used as a medium where teachers upload their lecture videos, and students download and watch them over and over again to understand the concepts clearly.
But some of the students around 30 percent were being left out, due to reasons of not having internet access, call facility, no mobile phones, or parents not in the situation of support because there are many important concerns for them now in their perspective.
At the start of our new academic year (2021-22) in online mode, to assure that each and every student participates in the online teaching, we distributed tablets with network connections. These tablets were collected through both donations of old devices and donations through our generous donors. Around 25 smartphones were distributed among 66 students. Hostel Construction
For several years, under GYWS’s flagship initiative Jagriti Vidya Mandir (JVM), students from underprivileged families receive quality education free of cost. We are now taking a step forward to accessible education by constructing a residential Hostel with the capacity of housing 100 students. The hostel will be resided by the students studying in JVM as well as those who passed out from JVM and are studying in Hijli High School. The hostel will ensure that they get the required aura to study and excel. The boarders will be provided with a tuition facility after school hours too.
We would conduct tests based on national standards to understand the prior knowledge of the learners covered within the project. A proper curriculum would be prepared with proper discussion and debate with a goal for all-round development of children and impart values in them. We would keep regular monitoring of the activities and have evaluations at regular intervals. The project would provide input and assistance to students after the schooling hours also. Personal attention would be paid to help students with different levels. The project would also help us in generating awareness among the parents as well as training teachers in delivering quality through being trained themselves first.
The construction of the hostel is in process and we expect to complete the construction in the upcoming few months. You can have a look at the current status of construction in the photos.
