Online Classes in JVM

We continued online classes as schools have been suspended all over India for an uncertain period. We are using Whatsapp as a medium for e-classes. The syllabus is going on as per the schedule made for offline classes before lockdown. We have different groups for doubt clearing and for submitting assignments. Teachers are contacting students on a weekly basis to ensure the active participation of students in online classes. We have also conducted tests in both online and offline mode to evaluate student’s progress. Apart from that, we organized events like poster making on Teacher's day to ensure extracurricular participation even in the days of COVID-19. We are trying to conduct classes smoothly so that students don’t feel stress in this difficult situation.

JVM collaboration with EK TARA:

Gopali Youth Welfare Society collaborated with Ek Tara Foundation, which is a social development organization, registered as a Trust - IV-146/15, situated at Kolkata. Ek Tara is engaged in the promotion of education, social welfare, and other related matters for the social upliftment of the weaker section of the society, particularly the girl child. They being experts in this field had a lot of talented people who had multiple customized solutions to improving engagement even in the online mode. Multiple workshops were conducted with the teachers of our school that was based on improving online classes, making lesson plans for the classroom, improving parents’ participation in the school, what and how to talk to children. Apart from that, through the teachers of our school, they also worked with the students of our school for a duration of two months (July and August), where they implemented activity-based

lesson plans prepared by  the teachers. This improved engagement with the children to 85% and even  increased engagement of students lacking network connectivity. This ensured the proper flow of knowledge even in the online mode.

RISE:

The RISE (Reform and Innovate Education) initiative was started with an aim to improve the quality of education imparted in schools. Through our LiGHT Centres, we approached various schools throughout the nation for an online workshop. Our collaboration with Ek Tara brought in teachers with expertise and experience in early childhood development. We conducted this workshop successfully around 8 different cities in which more than 15+ schools participated and as an outcome, 85.7% of the teachers who conducted the activities found that the students were more interested and engaged than before during the online classes in the COVID pandemic scenario. There were 2 phases in the workshop, 31 teachers participated in Phase1 and 24 teachers participated in Phase2. Phase 2 was an activity-based phase where 7 teachers conducted the activities where a total of 110 students participated.

The aim of the workshop was :

  1. To provide teachers across different parts of the country the means of implementing activity-based learning lesson plans during pandemic and post-pandemic.
  2. Promote student-centric teaching methods for the holistic development of students.
  3. Facilitate the implementation of the guidelines of the NEP (National Education Policy 2020)
  4. Create a PAN-India network of enthusiastic teachers looking to reform the learning methods in the classrooms.
