In the face of various challenges this past year, we have continued to stand tall, united by our commitment to creating a lasting, positive impact in the lives of children who rely on us for hope and support. We have remained steadfast in our resolve to create a brighter future for the children and families we serve.
In 2023, Save the Children Philippinesm directly reached 325,099 individuals all over the Philippines with our education, health, child protection, child- sensitive livehoods and social protection programs, and humanitarian response. In this report, we are proud to share the success of one of our local programs catlled Catch Up Clubs (CUCs).
Catch-up Clubs (CUCs) is a unique method to help children return to school safely. We design CuCs for students in grades 4 to 6, utilizing a play-based approach to help them catch up on their education. We implement the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) learning method in CuCs, grouping and assisting children based on their reading abilities. Our CuCs complement the Department of Education’s Learning Camp and National Reading Program efforts.
Through the combined donations of people like you, we are proud to have pushed boundaries and strived for excellence in addressing the learning gaps through our catch-up clubs, which as shown by evidence has improved the literacy of non-readers or struggling readers in several communities:
75% improvement among non-readers and struggling readers
21.5% increase in literacy compared to those who did not receive cash assistance
CUC is just one of the many amazing and life-changing programs we are proud of.
