Thank you very much for supporting our programs in Save the Children. This report features one of the projects made possible by the pooled support of donors like you!
With the help of donors like you, Save the Children Philippines improves the health and nutrition status among children (boys, girls, children with disabilities) and their families with the integration of improved food security and social protection programs targeting remote rural communities of eight municipalities of Samar.By working in these communities, we are able to reach children and families most impacted by inequality and discrimination in geographically isolated and disadvantage areas of the country.
Save the Children Philippines (SCP) with its project Nurture F1KD Phase 3: Boosting Health and Nutrition in Samar expanded to seven more municipalities in Samar to continuously offer health and nutrition support through various interventions and innovations in maternal newborn and child health and nutrition programming especially on the First 1000 Days of Life.
We are proud to share that we have trained172 facilitators on behavior change program called Positive Deviance Hearth to improve the health status of malnourished children. Through this effort, the community is able to quickly rehabilitate identified malnourished children, enable families to sustain the rehabilitation of the identified malnourished children at home on their own, and prevent future malnutrition among all children in the community by changing the child caring, feeding, hygiene and health-seeking practices of the community.
Socio-Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) tools such as Child length mat, Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tapes, Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator, and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials (Hand and Mouth Hygiene, food pyramid, infact young child feeding flip Chart, complementary feeding manuals) were thoroughly explained and distributed.
Save the Children Philippines, in partnership with a local civil society organization called Molahutay Cooperative, also distributed food baskets to 226 children and their families. The food baskets were provided to at-risk children who suffer from malnutrition, including pregnant and lactating women.
The parents also participated in a series of learning sessions on health and nutrition, parenting, child development, among others. This holistic approach reflects our commitment to not only addressing immediate needs but also fostering sustainable and positive change in the lives of children and families.
We thank you and we are looking forward to your continuing support!
