Families: pillars of childhood development with Cerebral Palsy
Supporting children with cerebral palsy presents very particular challenges to those who fulfill this role in life. It is a path in which there are many obstacles and in which great efforts are required so that, where desirable, honestly make the best effort for the well-being of your children. At ConNosotros we opened a space that we call Workshop to support and accompany family members who are primary caregivers of our students with neuromotor disabilities. It is important to recognize and validate all the emotions and feelings that mothers and fathers go through in the development process of their children. We had the participation of an expert psychologist on the subject who, during six sessions, offered the attendees emotional self-regulation techniques, ways to identify signs of stress and learning to manage it. It has also been shown that the act of meeting and talking about common problems generates significant well-being for primary caregivers. Every day is a new discovery to be more capable and feel strengthened in your caring role.
Likewise, for these excellent female primary caregivers, we offered a gift as mothers of our students to celebrate what is known in Mexico as Mother's Day. A circle with rose petals and guided meditation was held. Together they reflected on that important role in supporting their daughters and sons.
Friendship that is built day by day
The commemoration of Valentine's Day is for ConNosotros a way to build community and strengthen bonds of friendship between students, teachers, and volunteers. We celebrate by playing games, exchanging gifts and recognizing each other. We can say that thinking about friendship is acting with the affects that emerge in everyday life at school. Everyone learns at their own pace and that is respected. It is the way of giving a place to each individual who only expects that: to be accepted as he is and recognize that even when he goes slower, he is still on the path, with his group, with his friends. In addition, a definitely fun celebration was the Karaoke afternoon, where there were prizes and a lot of enthusiasm from the participants.
Adding hands building networks
The program promoted by the Government of the Mexican Republic called Young People Building the Future accepted our educational center as viable so that professionals from different areas would have the opportunity to participate with their knowledge and generate a work learning experience in their lives, receiving a support scholarship. Certainly each new professional involves the challenge of teaching the basic principles of the Peto Model of Conducted Education, but a dialogue of knowledge also begins between our group work team and the new generations. Definitely, your digital skills allow us to expand communication horizons. In this report we want to highlight the excellent networking that these young people contributed, building the future by recording videos on the TIck Tock platform that have made the progress of our students more clearly visible.
Please! Click on the link to the video titled “Students launch a Tick Tock campaign” where they invite an influencer to visit the school and make donations. Certainly our teenagers have a lot of fun, but we will emphasize a very important point here: our students develop confidence to work as a team and also to speak. Emitting words in our world structured with clear and accurate languages makes us look with difficulty at the form of our students' speech. Only with practice, we know how to “translate” his words. This video demonstrates the structure of the students' speech and their abilities to communicate from the subtitles that are incorporated into the video. This subtitling work adds visibility to our students. It is worth mentioning that the videos were also campaigns that called for donations to the school, having great success on social networks.
For the group of professionals from Jóvenes Construyendo un Futuro, as well as university students with professional internships or who carry out social service and volunteering at Con Nuestros, an introductory workshop to Education was offered to expand their knowledge and ensure that their work had the best results, both for our students and for their observations and knowledge as professionals in their own specialty.
New generations of artists
“It is better to be wrong” That is the motto that guides the creative spirit among our students. During March and April, two creativity sessions were held in an Art workshop led by teachers from the Chocolates Cultural Center, a public agency of the State Government. They kindly come to live and create with our students to give continuity to the activities that the center shares ConNosotros.
Our teachers: stories of dedication in loving and firm guidance for our students
Another of the Tick Tock videos that you can also click on this report is the one celebrating Teacher's Day. It was an emotional session of hugs and demonstrations of the value that our teachers have instilled in the children.
Also in this quarter, for the teachers of our school, the “Emergency Care and First Aid Workshop” was held. We must always be attentive to promoting the culture of prevention. So far no incident has occurred, but it is very important to know the eventualities that may arise in the school environment and the best and most effective way to deal with them. Congratulations!
Alumni conference about living with disabilities
ConNosotros is a bet on the future. A former student was invited to give a conference at the Cuaunahuac University on the topic: “The challenges of formal education and disability.” Our former student spoke about the difficulties of accessing higher education under the parameters that still dominate for the inclusion of people with disabilities in university studies.
25th Anniversary of ConNosotros, A.C.
How to describe two and a half decades of work, education, community and learning? We make efforts to demonstrate the advances in the mobility of our students, through the acquisition and practice of their socio-emotional skills and we talk about the advocacy processes to transform thinking and social views towards disability. Thousands of moments focused on these purposes, that with the moments that demonstrate the joy and feeling of living, including all our students, who throughout this time have been in our school, give us their testimonies and smiles, it could be said, that is the best reward for this time.
Thank you very much for thinking differently, for thinking ConNosotros!
