Summary

United World College in Costa Rica has awarded 10 full scholarships to outstanding young men and women coming from 8 different countries: Yemen, Pakistan, Liberia, Congo, Panama, Ecuador, Argentina and Colombia. 3 of them come from foster-care homes, 2 hold the status of refugees, and 5 come from violent war zones. They still need $5K more, each. This will cover visa fees, university application fees, 2yrs pocket money and a stipend for December breaks.

Challenge

These 10 outstanding young men and women have being offered a full scholarship by UWC Costa Rica-$74,000 in value. BUT they still need to raise $5K more each before they can come and enjoy their well-deserved place at UWC! These funds will allow them to support their personal expenses over the 2 years, cover visa fees, university application costs and other expenses associated with studying abroad and preparing for a better future.

Solution

We are asking all our friends, parents of students and alumni who like yourself, are interested in helping youth from such difficult backgrounds to donate and share this campaign. We are not letting $5k to stop them! We want -through your support -to show this very valuable youth we love them and want them at our school. As a BONUS our long time friends Shelby and Gale Davis will MATCH 100% of everything we collect to increase the Annual Fund!

Long-Term Impact

These 10 students represent the story of at least 1/4 of our graduates (200+) that also came from very vulnerable political and socioeconomic backgrounds. All of them have added so much value to our learning community. After graduation, they built successful careers either at universities or as active leaders in their communities. United World College Costa Rica supports integration, supports the training of young world leaders and global citizens, supports Latin America, supports youth.
