Deaf Cricket: Talent, Teamwork & Inclusion

By Bushra Azmat | Project Leader

DWAF believes that Deaf talent should be identified, encouraged and given opportunities to grow from the grassroots level.

Through our District Deaf Cricket initiative, we are creating opportunities for Deaf players to participate in organized cricket, demonstrate their abilities, build confidence and become part of a wider sporting community.

Our approach focuses on:

  • Grassroots talent hunting through district-level Deaf cricket
  • Identifying talented Deaf players who may otherwise remain unnoticed
  • Providing opportunities for young players to compete and improve their skills
  • Building confidence, teamwork, leadership and inclusion through sports
  • Creating pathways for promising players to progress toward higher levels of Deaf cricket
  • Expanding opportunities beyond major cities so that Deaf talent from different communities can be discovered

So far, DWAF has organized Deaf cricket tournaments in Attock, Kamra, Peshawar and Hyderabad, bringing Deaf players together and giving emerging talent an opportunity to be seen and encouraged.

Our vision is much bigger. We plan to gradually expand district-level Deaf cricket across Pakistan, creating a wider talent pool and providing opportunities to Deaf players from different cities and communities.

For many Deaf young people, cricket is more than a sport. It provides a platform to demonstrate ability, develop confidence, build friendships and feel included.

We sincerely thank our GlobalGiving donors and supporters for helping us create these opportunities. With continued support, we hope to discover and nurture Deaf cricket talent from across Pakistan and help promising players move from grassroots participation toward greater sporting opportunities.
