The dates of our donation distribution trip are right around the corner: February 7th-15th. Our team is getting more and more excited, and we hope you are, too! We wanted to apprise you, our dedicated donors, of our preparations for the trip.
In our last update, we were about $6,000 away from fully funding this project. Thanks to our first corporate donation and some very generous donors during the holiday season both here on GlobalGiving and offline , we are pleased to announce that the project is fully funded! While our Project Page does not yet reflect this, as some of the funds were raised outside of GlobalGiving, we will wait to close out our Project Page until after the donation trip.
We have six US volunteers traveling to Panama for the trip. They are a combination of LARN founders, board members, and volunteers. Each is paying their own way to reduce LARN's costs. We will also utilize additional volunteers down in Panama.
LARN is still working to coordinate with the communities we want to visit during this trip; we plan to re-visit some communities we distributed goods to in 2010--such as La Sabana, Loma Colorad, La Laguna, and La Chumicosa--as well as visit some new communities. Some of the final coordination with the communities we wish to work with will have to happen when our founders arrive in Panama in advance of the donation trip. When the communities have been finalized, we will share them on our Project Page and Facebook page. Please keep in mind that due to the remote locations of the communities with which we work, weather, road conditions, and other factors can result in last-minute changes to our plans with regards to the communities we visit. We experienced this in 2010 and those last-minute changes actually led to us visiting some of the communities we plan to return to this year.
Our next update will be distributed just after our donation trip, but we will try to do some updates from the field on our Facebook page during the trip, so keep an eye out there.
Thank you again for your past and continued support of LARN and our activities. We can't wait to share photos with you after the trip to demonstrate what your assistance has enabled us to do and the great appreciation felt by the communities we serve.
