To support communities who were affected by disasters in Turkey, STL operate a micro-grant distribution program. The program targets the communities who were struck by wildfires in Mugla and Antalya, and by flood in Kastamonu. 11 communities in Kastamonu and 20 communities in Mugla and Antalya were supported by microgrants in order to develop and realize projects that they develop by themselves which will serve better disaster risk management in future. The communities developed projects on topics such as WASH, psychosocial recovery, disaster prevention, and mitigating disaster risks. Now they are more capable of identify their own needs and get mobilized to design relevant intervention to address those needs.
We wish to sustain the effect in increasing the community-based response. We would like to support communities’ empowerment and encourage them to take initiatives and be part of the change so that they can create effective interventions for restoration and rehabilitation of public spaces, psychosocial well-being, and livelihood resources which were significantly damaged due to the disasters.
