Independent community pharmacies often serve as the only accessible healthcare resource in their communities, making their continued operation vital for the patients who depend on them. When disasters occur, the NCPA Foundation provides disaster relief grants to help these pharmacies stay open and continue to serve their communities when it matters the most. Even a small donation can make a meaningful difference.
Flooding in communities is becoming more common even in areas that are designated low risk. Flooding impacts homes, businesses, and people, putting a strain on households, local economies, and local governments. Insurance coverage can be inadequate or unaffordable, leaving many to absorb losses themselves.
During the Washington State floods at the end of 2025, the NCPA Foundation provided a disaster relief grant to an independent community pharmacy that sustained structural damage to its building. The force of the waters separated the steel front from the stucco siding on one side of the building. On another side of the building, a gap between the foundation and the sidewalk formed. Both breaches allowed water and mud into the building resulting in damage to the flooring, drywall and insulation. Internal structures had to be rebuilt. The generator was damaged beyond repair. There is not another pharmacy for several miles in this rural area.
At the beginning of 2026, a main water line break flooded one of the two independent community pharmacies serving a small Missouri town of 3000 people. The flooding disrupted and limited customer access to vital health services including vaccines and blood pressure monitoring. A disaster relief grant from the NCPA Foundation helped the pharmacy continue to provide quality health care and health information.
These interventions reflect the NCPA Foundation's unwavering commitment to preserving healthcare access for all communities. With severe weather patterns intensifying across the United States, the Foundation anticipates increased demand for emergency assistance in the months ahead.
