Record flooding from the Little Sioux River on 6/22/24 caused catastrophic damage to the area, water levels peaked at 11.4' over flood stage. The pharmacy that was impacted had Clean Response onsite on 6/24; however, the building was not assessable with mitigation equipment until 6/25. Water levels within the structure were measured at 18" - 24". Due to the submersion of building materials and the grossly contaminated water, all impacted non-structural, porous, organic (i.e. drywall, insulation, MDF, plywood) building materials were recommended to be removed and disposed; impacted product within the structure were also to be disposed of. Non-porous, non-organic materials such as plastic & metals were able to be cleaned and disinfected.
It was recommended to remove all building material, excluding framing and sheathing 4' from the floor. Following completion of demolition, they pressure washed stud cavities, sheathing and flooring. A disinfectant had to be applied to all impacted materials. The salesfloor had to be completely stripped of everything. Cleaned what could be salvaged and reused.
NCPA Foundation's Disaster Relief grant funding was used to help pay for costs to get the store reopened and meet the needs of their patients. The pharmacy had been in business for 37 years with 14 employees.
