When earthquakes, floods, conflict, or other disasters strike, HI's teams deploy within 72 hours to assist people with disabilities and others injured or displaced. Our response combines emergency supplies, shelter, and rehabilitation care with a plan for long-term recovery from day one.
Disasters like earthquakes, floods, and conflict strike with little warning, and the danger doesn't end when the event does - the months after are often as perilous as the disaster itself. People with disabilities and other vulnerable groups face the greatest risk and are frequently overlooked in emergency response.
HI deploys emergency specialists within 72 hours, providing supplies, shelter, hygiene kits, and cash assistance alongside physical rehabilitation, psychosocial support, and explosive weapons risk education. Every response is planned to ensure people with disabilities and other excluded groups can access care.
By pairing rapid relief with rehabilitation and long-term planning from the outset, HI helps communities recover, not just survive. This continuity of care reduces lasting disability, restores independence, and builds resilience for the next crisis a community may face.
