Millions of refugee women are currently living in dire conditions in camps without basic everyday essentials like food, clothes and warmth. For these refugees, being a woman means that they are also deprived of feminine hygiene products to manage their period, which adds to the hardship. Global One is providing essential Dignity Kits complete with a menstrual cup/pack of sanitary towels, soap and shampoo to female Rohingya refugees.
After being forced to flee their homes, Rohingya women are often left with no choice but to live in camps without essential hygiene products and appropriate spaces for sanitation. Agencies working within refugee camps may not be culturally sensitive, particularly in the case of feminine hygiene. As a result, girls continue to miss out on education due to the absence of sanitary products.
This project seeks to relieve the burden for Rohingya refugee women in camps in Bangladesh by providing feminine hygiene products and other essentials. We work with local organisations to identify the refugee camps in which there is the most need and then distribute Dignity Kits, which include a menstrual cup/pack of sanitary towels, soap, shampoo, underwear, toothbrush and toothpaste. Our kits are culturally sensitive to ensure we meet the needs of the women we are trying to help.
The women we reach will gain the essentials necessary to participate more fully in their communities and live fuller lives. With access to hygiene products, the women will no longer risk violence and sexual assault as they try to deal with their menstrual health in the dark of the night.
