Challenge

In many informal settlements in Nairobi, girls face significant barriers to managing their menstrual health. Limited access to affordable sanitary products, lack of accurate information, and persistent stigma around menstruation mean that many girls miss school, withdraw from activities, or experience anxiety and discomfort each month. For girls already navigating poverty, gender-based vulnerability, and limited support systems, menstruation becomes another factor that interrupts education.

Solution

Dignity for Girls in Kenya will support at least 300 girls in one year with consistent access to sanitary pads, delivering 3,600 monthly distributions. This reduces school absenteeism and daily disruption caused by lack of menstrual products. In addition, 200 girls will receive menstrual health education, improving hygiene practices and confidence. By combining access and information through trusted community spaces, the project addresses a preventable barrier and enables girls to participate.

Long-Term Impact

Over time, consistent access to sanitary pads and menstrual health information will help girls remain in school, participate confidently, and avoid preventable health risks. As girls experience fewer disruptions, educational outcomes improve and long-term opportunities expand. By normalizing menstrual health support through community-based delivery, the project contributes to lasting reductions in stigma and helps strengthen pathways to education, wellbeing, and economic participation for girls
