The transit of women in forced mobility exposes their lives to extreme risks impacting their safety, integrity and dignity. Their physical appearance, gender, social & economic conditions are closely related to the consequences of these dangers. All of these factors leave a devastating impact on their mental, physical & emotional health, resulting in deep and lasting scars. Join the effort to dignify the stories of migrant women in Chiapas, so that they can heal, rebuild, and forge their future.
40% of the asylum applicants and 53% of the internally displaced are women. Exposed to extreme risks: discrimination, robbery, harassment, physical and psychological abuse, rape, trafficking, deprivation of liberty, and death are part of the challenges they face in their search for an uncertain future. These atrocities leave deep scars: trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorders, which, without attention, will affect their integration, recovery, well-being, and future.
The needs of migrant women at the Chiapas border are approached individually, focusing on each person, providing prevention, care, attention, guidance and protection through basic services, mental health support, empowerment, legal orientation, and life project reconstruction. Psychological counseling, humanitarian aid, and information about specific services are offered, along with legal assistance, guidance in procedures, and informative talks.
580 women with psychosocial support have an impact on their life project reconstruction. Extensive care offered covers basic needs that strengthen their decision-making abilities, providing mental health care tools that promote reconciliation with themselves, their environment, and their history, as well as strategies to cope with stress, anxiety, and depression. Additionally, with legal guidance and advice, they exercise their rights to identity, freedom of movement, and health.
