By Mamadou Kane | Centre Co-ordinator
At the Diapalante Community Education Centre, we are proud to shine a light on the inspiring individuals who make our work possible. Today, we would like to introduce Mor, one of our most dedicated and impactful community members.
Mor, aged 43, is a husband and father of two, and works professionally as a trainer in Microsoft Office. Alongside his career, he gives generously of his time as a volunteer at the Centre, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to supporting others in his community.
Empowering Through Digital Skills
Mor is a regular presence at the Centre and plays an active role in many of our activities. Recognising the growing importance of digital literacy, he founded our “Digital Holidays” programme.
This initiative provides basic IT training to community members who are often unable to access such learning during the school year due to work or personal commitments. Thanks to Mor’s leadership, many participants have gained essential digital skills—opening doors to new opportunities and enabling them to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
Going the Extra Mile – Literally
Mor’s dedication extends far beyond teaching. In an extraordinary show of commitment, he took part in the London Marathon MyWay, running the marathon in Senegal to raise funds for the future development of the Centre.
Despite facing some health challenges, Mor completed the full 42 km, accompanied by fellow Centre members and others from the community for parts of the route. His determination and team spirit were truly inspiring.
Through this effort, Mor raised £1,500, a significant contribution towards the construction of our future Community Centre—a vital project that will allow us to expand and improve the services we offer.
Reflecting on his achievement, Mor said:
“I am deeply honoured to have taken part in this marathon and to contribute to the construction of our future Community Centre. This race was not only a personal challenge, but a symbol of the commitment and solidarity that unite us as a community.
Every step I took represented not only my effort, but also the hopes of all those who dream of a space to learn, grow, and thrive.”
An Inspiration to Us All
Mor’s story is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through passion, generosity, and perseverance. He embodies the values at the heart of the Diapalante Community Education Centre—solidarity, inclusion, and community empowerment.
His ability to bring people together and create opportunities for learning has made a lasting impact. Individuals like Mor enable us to continue developing programmes that truly meet the needs of the community.
Our Thanks to You
We are deeply grateful to Mor for his dedication and outstanding contributions. His example inspires not only those around him in Kaolack, but all of us who support the Centre from afar.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to you—our donors. Your continued support helps make stories like Mor’s possible and allows us to build a brighter future for the community we serve.
