Let's win the race against diabetes!

In 2012 AYUDA supported its Dominican Republic partners Aprendiendo a Vivir (AAV) in the development of a national diabetes prevention and exercise campaign “Ganemosle la Carrera a la diabetes” which included a 10K run, a 5k Run/Walk and a Zumbathon. The program was met with such success with close to 4,000 people participating in the event that it is to become an annual event with potential smaller offshoot programs throughout the year. In a country where an estimated 70% of the population do not exercise and with an increasing prevalence of diabetes, obesity and other non-communicable diseases, there has been a demand for larger scale events that reach even more members of the general public.

AYUDA is proud to introduce our newest Dominican volunteer program, in partnership with AAV : The Ganemosle 2013 Volunteer Program. This nine-day program will run from June 1st to June 9th. Volunteers will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on a national grassroots public awareness campaign and fitness event to be held in the nation’s capital, Santo Domingo. We are seeking volunteers who are passionate about being part of a grassroots diabetes exercise movement abroad, and in doing so changing the way the public views diabetes. The funds generated from this activity will go to support our partners in their mission to educate children and youth with Type 1 Diabetes in the Dominican Republic. 'Ganemosle' will be the second annual diabetes program that AYUDA and AAV will support in the country, alongside the diabetes education family programs held in the nation's capital, Santo Domingo, since 2009.
