GlobeMed connects university-based chapters with grassroots organizations in one-to-one, long-term partnerships to co-develop creative solutions to health challenges. We train students to listen and respond to the real needs of partner communities, and we create spaces for grassroots leaders to build the skills and confidence to be the lead strategists in their global partnerships. The Result: a movement of 21st Century Leaders for Global Health who balance boldness with humility and compassion.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
All around the world, people continue to face barriers to achieving prosperous, healthy livelihoods. While the field of global health has allocated significant resources to decreasing these barriers, the world still faces tremendous needs. GlobeMed believes that realizing global health equity requires a shift in our collective approach to global collaboration that centers poor communities and enables local organizations to be the lead strategists and drivers of the change they want to see.
How will this project solve this problem?
Through strategic engagement of university students and grassroots changemakers, GlobeMed partnerships provide a space for 21st Century global health leaders to learn and apply the human skills necessary to build a more effective global health workforce. Through trainings, peer-to-peer learning, and cross-cultural relationship building, we foster 6 core leadership practices among members of our network.
