A new school for Imi Oughlad!

By Danielle | EBF Lead

Exciting news from the village of Imi Oughlad!

The Eve Branson Foundation has proudly opened the brand-new primary school in Imi Oughlad - rebuilt from the ground up for 180 children affected by the earthquake in Morocco. With heartfelt speeches, community support, and even a magician for the little ones, the opening was a truly joyful milestone.

The school employs three teachers who personally thanked donors like yourself who have made this project a reality. With your support, we have built back better with four brightly painted classrooms and all of the equipment needed to help pupils flourish.

“It was incredibly difficult to imagine a future following the earthquake and yet, here we stand today in this magnificent new school building. This has only been made possible due to the generosity of donors through The Eve Branson Foundation and the coming together of our community. We are forever thankful. Teaching is a very rewarding profession and I am so happy to get back into the classroom.” - Abdelilah Soulali - Teacher at Imi Oughlad School.

Delegates, community leaders and local representatives joined hands to cut the ribbon and mark this joyous moment. Mr. Mohamed Zerrouki, Regional Director of National Education in Al Haouz from the Ministry of Education, commended the construction. The building provides a blueprint for other school construction projects in the region.

To see the enthusiasm of school pupils from the village, boys and girls, as they poured in through the classroom doors was moving. Every pupil had a back-to-school stationery pack waiting for them on their desk.

Our team continue to work closely with the Ministry of Education and local leaders to ensure young people in the region have a safe place to play and learn, supporting a return to familiar routines. We are now embarking on the rebuild of a primary and pre-school in Tansghart village, with three more schools to follow. We will launch a new project appeal to help raise funds for these new schools. Our work is far from done but with your partnership and support, we will continue to make great progress.

Thank you.
