English Report
During the past three months several school treatments have been implemented by DfA-staff in rural areas in Western Kenya. Oral Health Officer Alex Omollo has examined 152 children at Odhong Primary School in Kisumu County in May and treated 111 of these children as a result. Photos and original records of the treatments conducted have been sent to the DfA-office in German.
More visits at schools have been made proceeding from the DfA dental unit in Kapnyeberai in June at one kindergarten and one primary schools by Oral Health Officer Francis Waishi. An additional 200 children were treated at these two facilities.
Due to our involvement in Kenya we know that dental decay and poor oral health induced by bad nutrition and a lack of care are increasing tremendously in Kenya. The objective of the project is thus to inform children and their parents about nutrition and dental care.
During school treatments our staff does extractions, fillings and scalings. Children are being taught to avoid drinking too much sodas and eating too much sweets. They all receive tooth brushes and tooth paste and are being shown how to brush their teeth properly.
