Miško has an oustanding visual memory – art therapy in the Autistic Centre Andreas

We offer children and young people with autism various therapies and freetime activities during the stay in the Autistic Centre Andreas. Miško loves art theraphy.

Miško is a 26 year old young man. Miško is autistic. We were all very happy when Miško was born. „Andrejko, our older son, won’t be alone, he will have a brother. He will play with him and when they grow up they will support each other“ we used to say. It is not true.

Miško’s older brother doesn’t have a brother to play with, he has a brother he looks after since childhood, just like us – his parents – and it lasts up to now.

Miško needs alldaylong care. We have been through different periods. I am sometimes surprised how we managed it all. Our family slowly got used to a life with a different routine, which is really hard, but we have learnt it. We have an exact daily routine and we have to adjust to Miško’s needs.

It was diffucult for us to find a suitable facility he could attend. Finally, we found the Austistic Centre Andreas in Bratislava. There are fantastic therapists in the centre. I know he has all he needs and he is being looked after well, while we can have a little break. Miško likes going to Andreas despite the fact it has taken a long time before he got used to it, just as to any other change.

Miško is dependent on his family. Apart from the time spent in Andreas he spends all the time with us. He likes visiting people, trips, travelling but he had to learn it as well. When he was little we used to go to the same places but now we can go together anywhere.

Miško likes watching TV, listening to music, browsing books and especially he likes drawing. He attends art therapy in the Autistic Centre Andreas. He has an outstanding visual memory. He can draw or paint almost anything according to a picture (seeing a template). Our whole house is decorated with his pictures and art works. He likes it when we take phographs of him. He spends hours with photographs. He took our family albums and sorted out his own photo file. When we go to visit some friends they have to hide their photo albums because he would take all their photos to his photo file at home. Photos are just one of the many things we have to take care of when we look after Miško.

However the care of Miško is hard, the situations when Miško is happy we are happy too.

The Project For parents without parents offers various freetime activities for children with autism. One hour of art therapy costs 8 eur. Thank you for your donation.
