In June 2015 there is 21 regular volunteers in the inpatient units and in outpatients ‘department in OUSA. In March we have recruited and trained 4 new volunteers (out of 16 candidates) for inpatient units. Our volunteers are serving hot drinks and magazines every week day in ambulances and in the halls, attend the inpatient units – they sit and talk with patients in the rooms, they lead creative workshops lessons and play games with the patients. From March till June 2015 we have held 12 supervision meetings for all volunteers groups. In the last couple of months we have been fundraising for the extension of our program to another interested hospital in Bratislava. We need to recruit a part time person to start up and advocacy and an implementation of volunteer program in a hospital which we have to select in July.
We need the resources to:
- To start a new volunteer program in another hospital in Bratislava – nowadays we are contacting the hospitals with the offer of providing them with an implementation of complete volunteer program (almost all hospitals in Slovakia have never worked with volunteers before), our role is to set up a suitable volunteer program in a hospital which is eager and able to involve volunteers and find the resources to employ a part time person for the program implementation.
- To provide free drinks (coffee, (ice) tea, cups, sugar, and milk) for patients waiting in the outpatients departments of (OUSA) hospital for the treatments.
- To carry out other activities in the OUSA hospital (clubs, crafting, library service, distribution of magazines, etc.) – to buy materials for clubs.
- Train new volunteers for all our activities in OUSA and in the other hospital after all negotiations – training is going to be held during one or two weekends in October 2015
