For the past 9 years, the Vrba volunteers have been actively involved at the Oncological Institution of St. Elizabeth. They regularly visit the patients, talk with them, play games, organize free-time activity groups, and operate a mobile library. We would like to expand the volunteer activities and engage those who are not able to commit to long-term support of terminally ill people, but are willing to be help with short-term activities such as delivering coffee, tea and magazines.

To volunteer for DS Vrba means to accompany seriously ill and dying. Since it is very difficult and mentally demanding, our volunteers remain in this voluntare service a maximum two to three years. To ensure the continuity of this program, we do recruiting of new volunteers twice a year - in spring and autumn. Although the work of the organization is based on volunteering principles, it entails some neccessary costs: the work of professionals who trains the volunteers and supervise their work.

We want to create the conditions sufficient for the training of our volunteers in Oncological institute of St. Elisabeth.

Long-Term Impact

We want to improve lifes of terminaly ill people. Our group works with volunteers - we train them and help them to communicate and feel comfortable with patients. Our long-term goal (or vision) is to create a network of volunteers that will be constantly growing and that will be supportive for all the patients that need them (firstly in our hospital of Saint Elisabeth, followingly elsewhere in Slovakia)
