Project Report | Nov 13, 2014
Volunteer Group Willow

By Betka Mrackova | Project coordinator

Our regular visits
Our regular visits

In autumn 2014 there were 20 volunteers going through recruitment process and 3 new volunteers were successfully recruited for inpatient unit and the coffee and tea service. They attended the weekend training at the end of October and were taken into units by experienced volunteers. Together (after some volunteers left for their personal reasons) we have 14 regular volunteers in the inpatient units and 7 volunteers in outpatients ‘department in OUSA. There are serving hot drinks and magazines every week day in ambulances and in the halls. 14 volunteers attend the inpatient units – they sit and talk with patients in the rooms, they lead creative workshops lessons and play games with the patients. In September some of our volunteers by joining the run called Tvrdak and have that way participated on fundraising event for Vrba. During the volunteer days in September there was staff from Petrzalka Library who was giving older books to the patients and to the hospital staff. There was a concert of two ad –hoc volunteers organized in the hospital in October.

We need the resources to:

-          Enable the volunteer opportunities also to people who would not be able to accompany long-term ill and terminally ill patients but would be able to carry out other activities in the hospital (clubs, crafting, library service, distribution of magazines, etc.) – to buy materials for clubs

-          Secure the protection of volunteers and patients who are in contact with them through the involvement of a qualified supervisor - the group supervision is obligatory, currently it is held once a month (three groups of volunteers – thus three Tuesdays per month) – to pay the supervisors
