Three Arms of the AACDP

Educational Sponsorship
Educational Sponsorship

All of the AACDP’s projects benefit the community served by the Mama Bakhita Cheshire Home in Livingstone, Zambia, an exceptionally deserving, but extremely underfunded resource for families with children with disabilities. We have been donating to the Mama Bakhita for more than 25 years, and we would like the donors to understand how their much-appreciated dollars will be spent in 2024.

Our most recent campaign was to raise funds to alleviate the drought emergency that much of Africa will continue facing for at least the next half year. But in addition to helping the community through this crisis, we are also committed to assisting the Mama Bakhita in three areas:

  • Education
There are several deserving students who need immediate sponsorship to continue their educations. We have found sponsorship for many students in the past, and are honored that after completing their courses, most of them decide to return home to use their new skills to help their community.

  • Zambezi Community Farm
Our biggest project so far, the farm still needs help to become a dependable source of food and income for the community farmers.

  • Mama Bakhita programs & infrastructure
    • To continue programs that have been beneficial to the children with disabilities, we would like to hire two new full-time staff for the Mama Bakhita: a physiotherapist and an art teacher.

    • Though infrastructure does not sound as provocative as our other projects, without it none of the wonderful work the Mama Bakhita does can be accomplished.

Thank you so much for your interest in this community and your ongoing support.
