Delay Marriage Promote Schooling for Ugandan Girls

Thank you for standing with us to keep girls in school and give them a chance to choose their future.

This week we engaged 4 teenage single young mothers from Bwaise a Suburb in Kampala city, Uganda in a safe space to talk about family planning and domestic violence. All 4 girls were abandoned by their children’s fathers and now live under the care of parents or relatives, with schooling interrupted by early pregnancy.

Through honest conversation, we saw both progress and the barriers we are working to break.

The first young mothers shared that she is currently on family planning. She mentioned “I don’t want another baby now. I want to go back to school first.” Her choice shows what is possible when girls have information and support.

The second young mother told us she fears family planning because of the side effects she experienced before.

The third and fourth girls said they fear it because of negative stories in their community. All three asked for accurate information and health services they can trust.

These stories remind us why the “Delay Marriage, Promote Schooling” project matters.

Without a doubt, early pregnancy and marriage cut education short, it increases vulnerability to domestic violence, and leave girls with no income or support.

When girls understand their health options and stay in school, they can delay marriage, earn an income, and care for their children with dignity.

Thanks to your donations, this week your support help us cover;

1. Community engagement sessions
2. Transport, and safe meeting space for 4 young mothers
3. Design simple guides on family planning options and where to access youth friendly services.
4. Link girls to local health centers for counseling.

100% of the donated funds went directly to program activities. We remain committed to using every dollar to reach more girls with practical support.

Next month, we want to host a health worker session in collaboration with staff from Reproductive Health Uganda to address myths and side effects so girls like these can make informed choices, provide school re-entry support and mentorship for the 4 mothers to resume learning or vocational training, and expand the dialogue to 20 more at-risk girls to prevent early marriage before it happens.
