Frayba accompanies the indigenous communities in Chiapas in their struggle to defend the rights to autonomy, their land and territory. Facing corporate threats, militarization, dispossession and the interests of organized crime, the communities organize themselves to carry out a comprehensive and collective struggle to defend their lands, their lives and their human rights. Together, we defend the communities, their autonomy and Mother Earth.
In a social context of exclusion and poverty, presence of armed conflicts ; The communities of indigenous peoples in Chiapas experience constant threats to their way of life, culture, and autonomy. Imposed on them are Industrial projects that aim to take over their lands for the use of economic interests of companies that only wish to extract natural resources out of the territory; the militarization of their areas of life and massive human rights violations. We accompany them in their strggule.
We accompany struggles and march alongside the communities as they raise their voice for their land and territory. We work to document violent actions against the indigenous communities in their territories; we form together effective strategies of struggle; carry out training sessions to to help identity risks and threats against their land; we remind the state of their responsibility to defends the lives and create actions of public advocacy for indigenous rights.
By organizing themselves, the communities are able to develop actions of resistance; to detain the corporate actions that threat their territories. The support received by Frayba makes that the organization processes contribute and vindicates of the right of original peoples to autonomy and self-determination, to define their forms of organization and government, as their rights to land and territory that are essential for their worldview and ways of life.
