Good news. Because of generous donations from the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board and many individual donors, this project is now fully-funded and the parcel is now owned by the the Green Mountain Conservancy. It is truly a glorious addition to the 913 acre Deer Run Nature Preserve. It will be protected into the future by a conservation easement from the Vermont Land Trust.
Visitors to this part of the Preserve exclaim over the beauty of the area where the ground is covered with sedges and numerous shagbark hickory trees reach to the sky. Animal sign is prevalent in the numerous nooks and crannies, and on the well-used animal trails. Moss and lichens cover the bedrock and glacial erratics left by the receding glaciers about 11,000 years ago. Water flows to the north or south in a unique stream that changes direction depending on the amount of rainfall.
Our GMC trail builder is laying out a trail on the property which will make this area open for the public to enjoy.
