Our project will promote decent work for 100 domestic workers in Mexico through training workshops on labor rights, technical skills development, legal support, and leadership development. We will also enhance our Dignas app to make it easier for domestic workers to access information on labor rights and decent work.
Mexico has one of the lowest social security coverages for domestic workers, with only 2.6% affiliated. 98% work without a written contract, and only 4% have access to health services. According to national data, 34.6% of domestic workers-most of whom are women-have faced discrimination, and 55.6% feel little or no respect for their rights. The main challenge for 48.4% is the lack of labor benefits, followed by poor working conditions (29.9%) and employer abuse (20.2%).
We propose a comprehensive model to improve the labor conditions of 100 domestic workers. 1) Formalization: Enforce labor contracts and social security access through incentives and sanctions. 2) Technology: Strengthen platforms like DIGNAS to connect workers with decent jobs and training. 3) Awareness campaigns: Promote media and public outreach to shift perceptions and value their work. 4) Strategic alliances: Partner with governments and employers to uphold labor rights.
The project will train 100 domestic workers in labor human rights and technical professionalization, enabling them to access better employment conditions and social security, as well as labor counseling through the use of the Dignas App, a digital tool that will allow them to learn about and demand their rights.
