Summary

In Comuna 13 of Medellin, many single mothers live in extreme poverty. These brave women lack access to decent housing, which affects their quality of life and limits opportunities for themselves and their children. Their precarious homes, built with inadequate materials, expose their families to health and safety risks. Without basic services, each day is a struggle for well-being. This urgent challenge requires effective solutions to transform their lives and provide a better future.

Challenge

In Comuna 13 of Medellin, many women heads of household live in extreme poverty. They lack access to decent housing, which deteriorates their quality of life and limits opportunities for their children. Their homes, built with inadequate materials, expose families to health and safety issues. Without basic services, each day becomes a struggle for well-being. This challenge requires urgent attention and effective solutions to transform their lives and provide a better future.

Solution

The Dame la Mano Foundation transforms slums into adequate housing, providing a dignified roof and a safe, healthy environment. Through the construction and improvement of homes, it empowers women heads of household in Medellin, enhancing their quality of life and fostering their economic and social autonomy. This project aims to build dignified homes with electricity, water, and sanitation services, thus improving the quality of life for these families and creating a healthier environment.

Long-Term Impact

The long-term impact of this project is significant. By providing dignified and safe housing to women heads of household, their quality of life improves, and health issues related to precarious conditions are reduced. This empowerment transforms their homes and strengthens community cohesion. Furthermore, a healthy environment offers better educational opportunities for their children, helping to break the cycle of poverty and build a more promising future for the entire community.
