Civil Society Is Under Attack In Hungary

Dear Drugreporter Supporter!

Civil society in Hungary is under attack: the government introduced a legislation that will blacklist NGOs funded from abroad, such as the Rights Reporter Foundation. This law is modelled after the Foreign Agent Law, signed by Vladimir Putin in Russia in 2012. It aims to stigmatise NGOs that receive international funding and therefore are not directly controlled by the government. We prepared a short video to show how thousands of Hungarians protested against this law in Budapest - and urge people to sign the AVAAZ petition on protecting civil society in Hungary. Please help us to share this video on Facebook! For more details on the law, please read our article on Liberties

The Drugreporter film crew attended the 60th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), the largest drug policy decision making forum of the United Nations, held in Vienne every March. This year we tested our new technology to make high quality life streaming reports - to create our own online UN TV talkshow. On Monday we streamed a discussion with Gloria Lai from the International Drug Policy Consortium (IDPC) and Steve Rolles from Transform. On Tuesday we invited two global drug commissioners, Ruth Dreifuss, the former president of Switzerland, and Michael Kazatchkine, the UN's Secretary General's special envoy on HIV/AIDS in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

I would like to draw your attention to a few new articles and videos that have been published on Drugreporter in recent weeks!

FORBIDDEN - Comics
Forbidden is an issue of four comics produced by The Romanian Harm Reduction Network with the support of Drugreporter as part of the national campaign to support harm reduction in Romania.

People Who Use Drugs Clean-up Their Neighbourhood In Slovakia
“We wanted to show to the whole neighbourhood that people who use drugs are not indifferent and have a great power to do great things. It is only a matter of opportunity.” Odysseus, a Slovakian harm reduction NGO uses video advocacy to reach out local communities.

Amid political attacks, we need your support more than ever! Please make a donation on Global Giving today!

Best regards,

Peter Sarosi
