Dear Drugreporter Supporter,
I am glad to inform you that we have finalised the spin-off procedure by creating a new account on Global Giving for our new NGO, the Rights Reporter Foundation, which is now operating the Drugreporter website and all drug policy and video advocacy-related activities.
Drugreporter's activities have in the past been funded by international donors, such as the Open Society Foundation. As big donors are reducing their funding over time, we are constantly working on diversifying our funding sources, for example in the form of accepting regular micro donations and crowdfunding, to ensure the sustainability of our work.
Our team may be small, only three staff members, but the work we are doing - to chronicle the drug policy reform movement, to provide regional news on harm reduction, to document human rights abuses, to make the drug control system more transparent and to train activists to use videos for advocacy - is of great significance in the global struggle for a more humane drug policy. We receive positive feedback from many people - decision-makers, activists, service providers, doctors, teachers, and students - for whom the Drugreporter website, with its online video database, has become not only a source of information, but a source of inspiration as well.
One recent example is the UN General Assembly Special Session on drugs, held last month in New York. We produced a video report from this event - we were there not only to film key speeches and to ask high-level officials inconvenient questions, but also to document civil society actions outside the UN headquarters, including a great pre-conference event on racial justice and the war on drugs. Please watch and share our video report!
Our mission is not only to inform you about what's happening in drug policy - but to inspire you to become part of the change by showing you human stories about the impact of drug policies. The only way we can continue to do this is to have the support of the people who read and watch these stories - please make a donation today to ensure the continuity of our work!
Best regards,
Peter Sarosi
