Building an Inclusive Future for Deaf People
Dear Friends,
Every act of generosity begins with hope. Today, we are grateful to share an update on our project, Deaf Inclusion and Sign Language in Goma Community. Although implementation has not yet begun, important preparation work is already underway to ensure that every contribution creates lasting change for deaf children and adults in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Introduction
For thousands of deaf people in Goma, the greatest barrier is not hearing loss—it is the inability to communicate with the people around them. Many children cannot fully participate in school because teachers do not know sign language. Parents struggle to communicate with their own children. Healthcare workers often cannot explain medical information, while employers overlook talented deaf adults simply because communication is difficult.
Our project was created to change this reality by building bridges through sign language education and community inclusion.
Current Situation
We are currently in the preparation phase of the project. Our team is identifying qualified sign language trainers and selecting participants, including teachers, family members, healthcare workers, and community professionals who will take part in the training program.
Project implementation is scheduled to begin in November 2025. Careful preparation during this stage is essential to ensure that the training is effective, inclusive, and sustainable.
Project Goal
Our goal is to train 100 teachers, family members, healthcare professionals, and community leaders in sign language over a period of twelve months.
By equipping people with practical communication skills, we aim to:
Activities Planned
Once implementation begins, the project will include:
These activities will help create an environment where deaf individuals are respected, understood, and able to participate fully in community life.
Financial Update
Project Budget: USD 25,000
Funds Raised to Date: USD 0
Although we have not yet received donations, we remain optimistic and fully committed to this mission. Through our partnership with GlobalGiving, we believe this project will reach compassionate supporters from around the world who share our vision of inclusion and equal opportunity.
Every donation, regardless of size, brings us one step closer to opening doors that have remained closed for far too long.
Expected Impact
This project is designed to create lasting change rather than temporary assistance.
By the end of the project, we expect:
Most importantly, deaf children and adults will experience something that cannot be measured financially: the opportunity to be understood, respected, and included.
Looking Ahead
The coming months are critical. Final preparations are continuing, and we look forward to launching activities in November 2025.
With sustained support, this project has the potential to transform not only individual lives but also the attitudes of an entire community. We believe that true inclusion begins when communication becomes possible.
Thank You
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to GlobalGiving for providing a trusted platform that connects our mission with generous people around the world. Partnerships like this make it possible for grassroots organizations to bring hope to communities that are too often overlooked.
To every donor who believes that every person deserves dignity, opportunity, and inclusion—thank you for standing with us.
A Call to Make Inclusion Possible
Today, our fundraising journey has only just begun.
Your support can help launch sign language training, empower teachers, reconnect families, improve healthcare access, and create opportunities for deaf children and adults who have spent too long on the margins of society.
When you invest in this project, you are not simply funding training sessions—you are giving someone the chance to communicate with their parents, learn in school, visit a doctor with confidence, find meaningful work, and participate fully in community life.
Together, we can build a future where no one is excluded because of a communication barrier.
Thank you for believing in this vision. Together, through the generosity of donors worldwide and the partnership of GlobalGiving, we are confident that we will achieve our goal and create lasting change for the deaf community in Goma.
