Summary

A typhoon with a speed of 90 kilometres massively destroyed the six districts of Tamil Nadu in petty hours of 16 November 2018. The turmoil took away 45 lives, displaced about 2,50,000 people and has extensively damaged the livelihood. Normalcy needs to be restored and urgent relief of food, water, medicine and shelter is required for the families in that area.

Challenge

Gaja cyclone uprooted 30,000 electricity poles and more than 100,000 trees. A large number of goats, deer and wild animals have lost their lives and the regions in delta are without power supply. It is hard to reach remote and inaccessible areas of Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Pudukottai. More than 117,000 houses, including thatched huts and tiled roof houses, have been partially or fully damaged.

Solution

We tend to provide temporary shelter and food packets to homeless and displaced people in cyclone affected districts. First aid along with Nutritious food and clean drinking water is being made accessible to those people. Clothes, shoes and utensils are to be provided, to restart the normal routine. We require your indulgent support to help the survivors.

Long-Term Impact

The support provided to affected people will encourage them to regain their normal lives. Health check-ups will be conducted on timely basis to ensure good health of people. Better accommodation facilities for people will be explored. Eventually people will start leading a sustained life.
