The DC STEM Fair is an incredibly engaging science program in Washington, D.C. for all students in the District to compete in competitions and experience hands-on science activities.
In Washington, D.C., over 30% of children are living below the poverty line. Furthermore, students are dropping out of school at an increasing rate. Science has the ability to engage and inspire students. Moreover, science can provide a ladder of success for students in DC and allow them to lead the next generation of scientists and engineers.
The DC STEM Fair is a series of programs around science education which will allow students to interact with science through engaging activities, competitions, and research. There are also a number of award and scholarship opportunities available to students that participate in the programs. This allows students to develop identity around science and academic rigor. It also allows students to develop their interest and identify career and college opportunities.
The DC STEM Fair engages over 1200 students every year. That number is growing quickly. The more students we can engage in science activities, the more students will be able to develop aptitudes for science and engineering. We believe the more students engage in science activities the brighter their future will be. The long-term effects of this program are boundless. Science has the power to alleviate poverty, create great inventors, and ultimately provide a global society with great value.
