For over 25 years Save A Sato has been easing the pain and suffering of thousands of street dogs and cats (Strays aka Sato) in Puerto Rico by rescuing, rehabilitating, giving shelter, love and finding them homes. -This project will help rebuild us custom build a recently acquired and much needed building to be used as a shelter for our over 150 dogs and 78 cats under our care at any given day. - We need to build cages, integrate pluming and electrical system to fit the needs of a shelter
There are currently over 300,000 stray dogs (Satos) in Puerto Rico. Although we wish we can save the all the task and resources to do this are far from reality. On any given we get endless call, text messages, social media feed with heartbreaking images of animals in dire need of help. Some often time close to die. Save A Sato has been known for taken the severely injured and often times discarded and looked over on the street as an animal with no hope. These are the cases we strive on.
Since hurricane Maria, our current humble shelter has been operating with nothing else but a blue tarp for roofing. The conditions specially during summer time have been extremely harsh for the animals we have under our care. Those tarp generate much heat making the living situation for the animals an extreme challenge. Having this new facility will provide a more solid structure that will shelter the Satos safer during a hurricane as well as more grounds to play.
This new shelter will not only facilitate a better home for the Satos, but given the space we will have it will also be able to allow us to continue educating future generations about the importance of spay and neutering as well as caring for an animal. Save A Sato is known to many local schools as a field day destination. Our new facility will allow us to provide this very important chats in a more comfortable and safer locale for all.
