A Dairy Pass-On Doelings Scheme is a community-based initiative aimed at empowering local smallholder farmers through sustainable dairy production. Under this scheme, selected beneficiary farmers will receive female dairy doelings, raise and manage them until first young, then pass on to the next cohort of farmers. The project will improve household incomes, nutrition, and capacity building, fostering community resilience and long-term growth.
Rural communities in our region face low milk production, limited access to quality genetics, and inadequate technical support. Household incomes remain low, and nutrition is compromised by insufficient dairy products. A pass-on dairy goat model has proven effective in similar contexts, promoting asset ownership, skills transfer, and communal solidarity.
The Dairy Goat Pass-On Doelings Project in Arusha tackles farmers' challenges by distributing 50 high-quality female goats, boosting milk yields above 2 liters/day. Training the farmers enhances goat care skills, while passing on doelings in 24 months expands access to quality genetics. Farmer groups ensure peer support and bulk input access, addressing low incomes, poor nutrition, and limited technical knowledge sustainably.
The project will improve household incomes, nutrition, and capacity building, fostering community resilience and long-term growth.
