Summer Season

Summer is such a wonderful time in the Cape Town area. Although it gets quite hot, there is a big buzz with all the international athletes training in the region, and we encounter them on the trails, on the streets and in coffee shops. Olympic athletes and world champions are right on our doorstep. One of the famous local events our team has the privilege of participating in, along with champion international cyclists, is the Wine to Whales, a three-day stage race stretching over 200km over the mountains between Hermanus and Somerset West. The exposure our riders gain at this event is very valuable in broadening their perspective on the opportunities and possibilities available to them in the cycling industry. They get to meet great people and share their stories.

Holiday time

During the December school holiday, friends from Germany visited and took our young athletes to climb Table Mountain and a few other outings for trail running and to the Aquarium.

Starting the Year

Term 1 has been a very encouraging start to the year for the Cycling Project. As we settled into the term and found our rhythm, we were blessed with a high number of riders who started the year.

The project has been running with three main riding groups during the week. On Tuesdays, we have the Junior Boys group. Wednesdays are for the Senior group, which is the faster and more experienced group. Thursdays are divided into two groups: the Girls Group, which focuses on building confidence, and the younger single-speed bikes group. Over the weekends, one group would have a chance to go for a longer ride, or the team would be racing at one of the local events.
