Chen Yong is an 8 year old boy and a star student who is often praised by teachers and classmates. However, his parents are migrant workers. He lives with his 60-year-old grandfather, helping him take care of his four siblings. His family situation is difficult, and their financial obstacles have only been exacerbated by the circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic. Donations raised will go 100% towards supporting Chen Yong and his peers through funding EFA educational programs and scholarships.
Migrant laborers are often forced to leave their children behind in rural homes. In 2010, there were 61 million children who were left behind in rural areas, 22 percent of all children in China (NWCCW, NBS, & UNICEF, 2014). Based on the 1% Population Sampling Survey (conducted by NBS), only 6 of 100 rural children can enter senior high schools, among whom 3 can finally graduate from senior high schools. Around 1-2 rural children had a chance to obtain tertiary education.
EFA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since its establishment in 2018, EFA has always accompanied impoverished children, families, and communities in China, providing financial assistance and various teaching resources. Currently, EFA teaches weekly English lessons to 500+ children from 8 schools in rural China, and our trained volunteers also provide emotional mentorship/guidance to at-risk students. Donations raised will go directly towards funding educational resources and scholarships.
Millions of children in rural China are trapped within a cycle of poverty that consists of inadequate education and unsupported childhoods. EFA's operations create hope for our students by giving them previously unavailable tools to succeed in life. By acquiring English literacy, gaining emotional maturity, and learning soft skills such as problem-solving, we strive towards EFA's vision to provide equal opportunities in life to all those who need it.
