Little Wang (name changed to protect identity) is a 7 year old boy who lives in Wu Hu Town in Tengchong County, Yunnan Province. His family are farmers, and their income last year was about $4800 USD. Little Wang was born with a congenital heart defect in which he had only one working heart chamber, instead of two. Unlike many other children with the same condition, Little Wang is lucky because the nature of his particular disease is such that, even at this relatively late stage, it can be cured with surgery. Operations for this kind of heart disease cost about $8000 USD in China--equivalent to about two years' worth of income for his family. The live-saving surgery is only partially covered by health insurance for families living in rural areas (approximately 10%), and Chinese charitable foundations have agreed to donate $2400 USD. Little Wang's family needs an additional $5600 USD to pay for his surgery. This is the amount we hope to raise via Global Giving during the 2016 holidays and "giving season."
