China California Heart Watch finds, diagnoses and refers for treatment poor children with heart disease in southwest Asia, including Yunnan, Thailand and Myanmar. You, our generous supporters, have enabled us to provide surgical treatments for over 100 children. We are now collaborating with Yunnan Fu Wai Cardiovascular Hospital in Kunming, China and organizations in Thailand to support underprivileged families with children in need of heart surgery.
China's economic reforms have bypassed the western Chinese countryside . This is tragic for the approximately nine in 1,000 children born in Yunnan who have heart defects. Families cannot afford to pay for expensive heart surgeries. The children pictured here are some of these children, and China Cal has found them just in time. They desperately need curative heart surgery. With your help, they will undergo surgery at Yunnan Province Fu Wai cardio-vascular hospital.
This project will cover costs for population screening, diagnosis, referral and surgical care of these children with heart disease. Fu Wai hospital and China Cal will send teams of doctors and nurses into the countryside to find and correctly diagnose their condition. Most will be referred to Fu Wai, a chain of high quality cardiac surgical hospitals with a branch in Yunnan Province for treatment.
This project will save the lives of up to 120 rural children and increase awareness of the need for better health care in China's rural areas. It is our belief that increased awareness will lead to better overall care for rural Chinese children with heart disease and bring attention to the growing pandemic of cardiovascular disease in China.
