CAMBODIAN EYE MISSION TO CURE BLINDNESS February 2017 report
Thank you for your kind support.
In October THE BLINDNESS FOUNDATION mounted an Eye Mission to Phnom Penh , Cambodia.
We worked in collaboration with staff Eye Doctors at the Soviet Friendship Hospital, known locally as the Russian Hospital, to help train young Cambodian Ophthalmologists in the latest surgical techniques of eye surgery, upgrading their skill sets.
This helps develop local sustainanble surgery to treat blindness, following the age-old maxim- teach a man to fish and you feed him for life.
Our other base was CSC- the Children's Surgery Centre, where we were able to donate cataract supplies - lenses and viscoelastics used in cataracat surgery and assist in their use. In addition we trained their Eye Doctors in novel cataract treatments.
Going forward we need your help in training young Eye Residents from Cambodia.
The bitter reality is that the Khmer Rouge killed off all the senior Doctors, so young Eye Doctors must perforce seek training in surrounding counries. We have made major strides , with programs in the Philippines through Foundation connections.
This is a major negotiation challenge , with language difficulties and such
Thank You for your continuuing support
