CAMBODIAN EYE MISSION
Today we received donated supplies for our upcomong Cambodian Eye Mission in December. We are busy unpacking and re-packing lenses and viscoelastics ready for shipment , the costs of which is one of our major expenses.and where your kind donations support us most..
We service two major Teaching Hospital Ophthalmology training programs in Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital city.
Both have cataract outreach programs for their poor patients , who cannot afford to pay for the lens implants that
THE BLINDNESS FOUNDATION www.blindcure.com provides annually..
This is in conjunction with our lectures on Ophthalmology and participatory eye clinics of local pataients , that help upgrade the young Eye Doctors clinical skills.
The hospitals have long lists of needed supplies and equipment that we nibble away at , depending on contributions received..
One of the existing problems in Cambodia , is the lack and expense of good service personell to look after their microscopes and slit lamps. In the tropical humidity microscope lenses tend to get fungal ingrowths which cloud their optics , lessening their usefullness to operate with. However the local Eye Doctors cheerfully manage to cope and get their cataract patients operated on, restoring their eyesight.
As about one third of our brain is devoted to processing vision, restoration of sight , enables much improved quality of life for their patients- work productivity and family life.greatly enhanced
Thank you all for your continuued support
