" Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. but TEACH a man to fish and you feed him for his life. "
. .Dr Walter Reed , who worked out the transmission of yellow fever , went one better:----
" If I treat ten patinets , i can save ten lives, but if I TRAIN ten Doctors , they can save a hundred lives !."
So it is with THE BLINDNESS FOUNDATION.
Our mantra ----
" HELP US HELP OTHERS HELP THEMSELVES "
has expanded our lectures and assistance with cataract surgery , this year, to include development and liaison with two Eye Departments in Phnom Penh Teaching Hospitals to offer the young Eye Resident Doctors , out of country paid Fellowships to expand their skill- sets to treat their own patients upon return to Cambodia.
These international Fellowships are funded by generous grants from the IOFF, a new foundation funded and developed by Dr. David Pyott, former CEO of Allergan.
This reperesent a major step in treading the path formulated by Dr. Walter Reed , for which we are all truly greateful.
THE BLINDNESS FOUNDATION is also helping coordinate Fellowships for other teaching hospitals in Burma, Thailand, the Philippines and laos.
Your kind contributions help with this tertiary step in our charitable work.
Happy New Year to all of you !
Thank You
