With your kind help,.we were able to succesfully complete our November-December 2023 Eye Mission to Cambodia for the poor. Thank you.
Over 500 lens implants were donated and arrived safely for implantation into cataract patients at two major Phnom Penh Eye Hospital departments, for their cataract outreach programs, for rural and urban poor, who were not charged for the lens implants, needed with their cataract surgeries.
In addition, medical supplies needed for the 500 patients eye surgeries were donated from a major US manufacturers to aid in these surgical procedures.
Eye Doctors ,including Faculty and Ophthalmology Residents were trained in new surgical techniques by Dr. Lyon to develop skill set transfers to the Cambodian medical system.
Importantly , a new Fellowship program has been developed for Cambodian Ophthalmologists. These out of country Fellowships , ranging from three to twelve months. allow certified Cambodian Eye Doctors to place in Eye Departments around the world to obtain further training is sub-specialty areas of Ophthalmology , that are not currently available in Cambodia.
With better educated Ophthalmologists, the Cambodian people's eye care will improve substantially.
A young CambodIan girl's traumatic cataract was removed and replaced with one of our donated lens implants, as her happy smile shows as she wais in the enclosed photograph below.
Thank you all for your kind support
