Finally, the Cambodian Eye Mission is underway.THE BLINDNESS FOUNDATION has received nearly 300 IOL lens implants to replace the cataracts of poor blind Cambodians living in and around Phnom Penh. Delays in shipment of the lenses donated by very kind US manufacturers , including Alcon and Bausch & Lomb, required postponement of the mission into December from our usual annual eye mission in October.
This eye mission will be spearheaded again by myself, DR CHRISTOPHER LYON, as Director of the Foundation
In addition to the lenses, the Foundation received surgical supplies to assist in modernising cataract surgery. Dr Lyon also donated some of his own cataract surgical instruments.
These are shipped via USPS, which although slow , has never missed a shipment to Cambodia. We acknowledge the kind assistance of the Cambodian Customs in getting the medical supplies to the hospital in Phnom Penh, which is the capital of cambodia..
Your kind and generous contributions help cover the shipment /postage costs, which increase every year-thank you.
We plan to operate on as many as 300 patients in the coming weeks, collaborating with local Cambodian Ophthalmologists. The poor patients are not charged for the implants or medical supplies.
Our working hospital the CSC, performs over 2000 of these operations each year on native Cambodians, so there is always room to expand our Foundation's work. Also, during this period Dr. Lyon will be giving lectures on improved eye surgery techniques to the young Eye Residents and Ophthalmic Techs and Nurses
So, again thank you all for your kind support for our annual eye missions to Cambodia,
DR CHRISTOPHER LYON
